UUID is short for “Universally Unique Identifier”. It is a 128-bit identifier used to assign unique identity values to objects in distributed systems, databases, API services and software applications.
GUID is short for “Globally Unique Identifier”. It is widely used, especially in the Microsoft and .NET ecosystem. In practice, the terms UUID and GUID mostly refer to the same identifier format.
